Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli Shine through as India escapes series whitewash against Australia in SCG.
Team India had its way back when Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli led the visitors to a resounding nine wicket victory over Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on Saturday, October 25. The old team wrote history as they steered India to triumph and it avoided a three-nil sweep of the series.
India Vs Australia Rohit Sharma became the first cricketer to score his 50th international century. Kohli became the second highest run-scorer in the history of the ODI cricket. It was the first 100-run stand of any kind that the duo had sewed together since January 2020. It resulted in India having a comfortable chase following a good performance with the bow.
India Vs Australia India’s Bowlers Set the Tone.
It was a day that was marked by captain Mitchell Marsh making a choice to bat first – the second time he had to make the decision in 27 ODIs. This move failed because the bowlers of India headed by Harshit Rana limited Australia to a small score of 236 runs in 46.4 overs.
Rana played unbelievably with the ball, taking 4 wickets at 39 runs, Washington Sundar (2/44) and Axar Patel put the middle overs under the strain. The Australian line up faltered to gain momentum even though Matt Renshaw made a maiden ODI half-century (56) and Marsh had 41.
Siraj sent Travis Head away early and Axar threw off Marsh immediately after the beverage break. Renshaw attempted to hold the innings together, but was dismissed through the review in the bowling of Sundar, leading to a late collapse. Rana and Kuldeep Yadav settled the tail in a short time so that India required only 237 runs to win.
Rohit and Kohli Lightning a Faultless Pursuit.
India, in response, received a flying start by Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill who gained 68 without being defeated in the PowerPlay. The reason behind the dismissal of Gill was 35, and Virat Kohli was introduced to the crease, and was given the warm reception of the crowd at SCG. Kohli, who had a lean patch that he wanted to break, played with calmness and self confidence.
Rohit has scored his 60th ODI fifty in the 21st over. Kohli gradually found his ground before recording his 75th ODI half-century. They formed an alliance and worked their 19th century partnership that monopolized the Australian bowlers with a lot of ease.
Another milestone Kohli made was surpassing Sangakkara who has 14,234 ODI runs. Becoming the second on the list of all time runners. Not long after that Rohit mentioned his 33rd ODI century. That turned out to be a historic night in the memory of Indian cricket supporters.

The duo was not beaten because India ran after the target in 38.3 overs and they ended at 237/1. Rohit and Kohli were not out as 121 and 74 respectively to round off a comfortable victory and the morale-giving end to the series.
